This is a very special one! But first things first: “Smartphone” is the second single of “Future Franz’s” debut album “Normal”. Released by Abficker Records in 2019.
The Song can be seen as a manifestation of the bad influence the internet and social-media in particular has on our lifes. But that is just my interpretation...

For “Smartphone” I was mainly in the role of a director and producer. The idea was to call several animators to produce very different footage for the song, without knowing what the others do, collect it and bring it toghether so it makes sense. First up we filmed the Realfootage and Daniel Strohhäcker created some 3D-

scenes and characters that we shared with everyone participating for the project. And because we’re super lucky, we won great animators for this project, such as:
Future Franz himself, Christina Mäckelburg, Niklas Berlec, Raffael Kormann, Mark Bohle, Fabian Friedrich and Lea Dohle.

Together with Christina Mäckelburg I also did some clay animation for the chorus of the song with Franz’s Head singing along with the classic Future Franz Karaoke text.

As the animated material was very different in its quantity and look, we decided to go for a a super cool mixed-media look and started combining one with another.

And of course some props like Magic Franz’s magic box had to be built for the Real-Footage scenes in which Franz saws his hairdresser in two.
